Weekly Thoughts from Evergreen

Share each other's burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.  Galatians 6:2  NLT

God, help your church to be transparent.  Help us to know we all stand the same before you and that there is no need to hide.  May the men from Higher Calling conference last weekend truly increase in understanding of grace and of the value of their God-given sexuality. May all who heard last weekend‘s message on sex, be encouraged at your good ways and not discouraged by failure.  God may we all be transparent and let you work through our weakness.

Love & Prayer Are a Powerful "One-Two"!

Pastor Tim Weber

You may have heard me talk about my friend Mike.  I met Mike a few years back buying a bicycle for my son. After first meeting him and seeing the bike, it became clear that he was selling a stolen bike.  This “chance” meeting was the beginning of a friendship.  Over that time I’ve learned that Mike’s life has been filled with enough pain and loss for 10 lives, a LOT of bad decisions, three gunshot wounds and many years of prison time.  I’ve asked myself several times why would God strike up a friendship between me (a suburban pastor) and a guy like Mike?  How has it lasted over 3 years?  No simple answers here, but there are 2 things that I know had a big impact.

  1. Love:  I love this man. And he knows it.  He’s use to feeling judged by others. He’s never experienced genuine, real love from another person and it’s made a deep imprint on his life.  It reminds me of when I experienced the love of God for the first time.  It overwhelmed me!  It drew me to Jesus. I’m not in any way comparing myself to God. I’m comparing the effect that genuine, real, heart felt love has on someone.  My love for Mike has impacted him.  When genuine and sincere love is experienced, people are impacted.
  2. Prayer:  I’m not in this alone.  I’ve been praying.  God has the power to open the heart of any human being. This is exactly what happened to me.  My Christian friend prayed for a very long time for me.  If he can do it with me, he can do it with Mike!.

We have different stories, but God has used Mike to show me that we are very much alike.  We are both, drawn to genuine love and are impacted by the prayers of others.

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”  (Matthew5: 16)
