Just Give It To God —Kyle Elbert

Waking up every morning to a beautiful Haitian sunrise showed me the awesomeness of God. It also gave me the wonderful sense of “He is here and watching over me.”

While all of my trips to Haiti have been unique, this one was, by far, the most special. I got to witness God’s work, first-hand, through prayer and my relinquishing control to Him.

It is not often you get to see prayers answered almost immediately. We are told to “Pray and wait.” On this trip, it was “Pray and watch, as God went to work.” The team prayed over a lot of things— as a group and individually. Almost instantly, we saw sicknesses healed, relationships mended, and calm prevail in the midst of crisis. These experiences affirmed my “prayer health.” They showed me that God is listening every time we talk with Him. I know responses will not always be as quick as we witnessed, but what a great feeling to know He hears us.

For those who know me, they will tell you I am a planner, and I like to be in control of most things. While I know God is the One in control, I still have the human side that won’t let anyone else take the wheel.

During one of our morning commutes, we ran into several roadblocks, placed by people protesting against the government. At a few of roadblocks, tempers flared, voices were raised, and fears began creeping into my mind. Being stuck inside a van and unable to understand the language, I had no control over my situation. I had no choice other than to just give up and hand it ALL over to God. Truly relinquishing control to God can create a great feeling of relief. It was spiritually eye-opening to feel the weight lifted from my shoulders, and to know that God has my back.
